Tony Ross,born 1938,in London,son of of a conjurer.Studied at Liverpool College of Art(1956-61).Worked in advertising (1961-65); lecturer at Manchester Polytechnic since 1965. Illustrator,and writer of children's books, mainly published by the Andersen Press.His illustrations are composed with care and wit; they are freely drawn in pen and ink with washes of transparent colour.His work is similar in style to Quentin Blake.He also makes animated films.
